The food is 6 stars- just delicious! I have to post my half-eaten tacos because I was starving- priorities, people! I got my favorite taco, tongue, and second favorite, pork - no pineapple on theirs. I also tried the pork cheek. Everything was perfectly seasoned, tender, and tasty! I like the cheek, but that cut is a bit fatty (which my husband doesn't like). The tortillas were perfect, and it's two per taco- like a double meal! Can't beat the prices! Note that they are in what I think is an old gas station- very casual dining and a bit chilly, but clean and bright!

My family has a place in the mountains about 45 mins from here, but this is where we exit the highway. I try to stop at Santa Lucia every opportunity I can to pick-up food on the way out there! One of the best, hole in the wall, Mexican spots I've found in N.C. You know it's good when most of the staff/patrons are speaking Spanish. I usually get a chorizo burrito (big portion, lots of meat), plus sides of queso and guacamole - both are excellent and their chips are perfection!! Having said that, I've never had anything I didn't like from here. It's unassuming and in what appears to be a converted gas station ... exactly what you want for no frills Mexican food. If you're going on a Friday evening, I suggest calling ahead. They get really busy and wait times can exceed an hour if you have a big order.

This place is located in front of Don's Seafood. Noticed this place on my way to Boone, and I love authentic tacos, so I had to try it. This place is also a Mexican store, which has tables (booths) on the left end, and the grill is on the right. Four tacos were $8, which is the most I've ever paid for tacos, so I was expecting big things. These al pastor tacos were great, and definitely the most meat of any authentic tacos I've ordered. Onions were cooked with the meat, and there were fresh onions on top, along with cilantro. 2 wedges of lime, a couple of radishes, and red and green sauce completed the meal. Squeeze some lime juice on the tacos, add some red and green sauce, and enjoy. Yeah, the price was a little high, but it was a great meal. If you're the type of person who is expecting chips and salsa, and white cheese dip, then this may not be the place for you. But if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, then this IS the place for you. Friendly folks also. CASH ONLY
